As with the other 5 core characters on Friends Jennifer Aniston was there from the first episode which aired in 1994 to the last episode in 2004 and played a key part in the show.

Rachel Green first appeared in Friends after bumping into her old school friend Monica Gellar and her brother Ross outside Central Perk, a coffee house in the centre of New York. Inspired by this encounter and how the pair are living their own lives she breaks off her wedding to Barry and attempts to stand on her own feet rather than rely on others.

This transition from her safe life supported by her rich family and friends proved hard for Rachel but she found strength from her new friends and slowly adjusted to working life and living on a budget.

One of the key plots to Rachel's character was an ongoing romance between herself and Ross which saw the pair dating for several seasons. Their relationship was unsteady though and they split up several times despite there always being a strong link between them. This uncertainty saw them have a child together after a night together whilst they were separated but gave in to their feelings. Despite the birth of Emma though the pair still remains distant and it wasn't until the final episodes of Friends that the question of whether Ross and Rachel will end up together was finally answered after 10 years with a made dash to the airport by Ross where he confessed his true feelings for Rachel.

As may be expected for a character in a show that lasts so long Rachel Green had plenty of ups and downs over the years which saw her in various relationships and situations. She began working as a clothing assistant at Ralph Lauren a few seasons in as she began to find her feet in New York.
